Advantages Of Using Virtual Reality in Education
School sometimes is very boring, all students learn in different way and at different pace. Some students are visual learners, some of them are best with hand writing or verbal commands. Virtual reality (VR) education will help bridge the gap between these students.
The effect of VR in education is based on several points.
- Virtual Reality make learning fun
Student always feel bored in learning. Teachers always think to teach student via interactive games and projects, group work, public speaking. VR can make the class more interesting and allow teachers to bring lesson to life.
- Memorable Experiences
Teacher can use Google Earth VR to show students various places around the world. Teacher can bring student to Great Wall in China , ancient Rome..etc. Student show more interest and engagement for the location they virtually visited.
Teacher can gamify every lesson. If you ask children to read a book, they will feel bore. But if you ask them to play a game to see who is the quickest person to find the answer in the book. It is totally difference for them. So virtual reality allow teacher to put some game element in the lesson, ie student can play a hunting game while learning about the ancient people’s lifestyle.
- Easy Access
Some student might need special need in education, like disability, special needs or distance learning. Virtual reality is a good solution to all these special need student.
For distance learning student, they can use virtual reality to sit into a classroom and listen to the lecturer instead of in front of a computer watching some video. Virtual reality is a good solution to those issues.
- Better way to practice
Practice means perfect, school theory need practice. Virtual reality can make school lab and experiment fun and exciting, especially some potentially dangerous element which will explode. The necessary environment can be simulated virtually, ie driving, chemical experiment, car mechanics, first aid. Student can do these in a completely safe environment.
Also VR can help in teaching foreign language as well. Student can put into a situation where everything is written or spoken in foreign language, so it will make learning foreign language more fun and practical.
- Social skill improve
Virtual reality can also teach social skill. Children learn how to treat other people, how to interact in a group, speak up in a group discussion. Shy student can interact with digital avatars; it will be easier for them to express themselves. Also virtual reality scenarios can focus on issues like bullying and racism, teach them how to deal with all these of situation if real life happen. And children can understand more how people will feel if they are being bully.
VR has many advantages in education, and soon we will see how VR can change the education.
